She’s Electric is the creation of Karen Boom, a fully qualified, highly experienced electrician based in Wickford, Essex, and proudly serving surrounding areas including Billericay, Brentwood, Rayleigh, Chelmsford, and Shenfield.
Karen is not only a skilled tradeswoman, but also a trailblazer. In an industry still heavily male-dominated, she stands out – not just because she’s a woman, but because of her fierce commitment to quality, integrity, and genuine customer care.
“YOU CAN’T BE WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE.”
These words have guided Karen’s journey since 2010, when a frustrating experience trying to hire an electrician opened her eyes to two big gaps in the market: the need for tradespeople who are reliable and communicate clearly, and the desperate lack of female role models in the electrical trade.
She's Electric Is Alive!
After navigating a maze of City & Guilds courses, industry jargon, and challenges faced by mature trainees – especially women – Karen pushed herself well outside her comfort zone. She’s Electric was born out of a determination to provide not just excellent workmanship, but also compassion, clear communication, and honesty.
Since then, Karen has earned widespread respect in the industry. In 2019, she was a finalist in Screwfix Britain’s Top Tradesperson, and later launched a fundraising calendar to support The Register of Tradeswomen, helping raise the profile of women in the trades. She’s mentored others, shared her story on social media, and been called “an inspiration” – a title she accepts with humility, always saying, “I’m just me, doing my thing.”

- Smoke / Heat Alarms & Interconnected Alarm Systems – Fully compliant installation and maintenance
- Fault Finding – Efficient diagnosis and repair of electrical issues
- EICRs – Electrical Installation Condition Reports for landlords and homeowners
- Consumer Unit / Fuse Board Testing & Upgrades – Up to current BS7671 IET 18th Edition regulations
- Garden Electrics – Power and lighting for garden offices, summer houses, hot tubs, ponds and more

Karen is proud to hold a range of industry-recognised qualifications, including:
- SMSTS – Site Management Safety Training Scheme (CITB)
- TMIET – Technician Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology
- City & Guilds 2392 – Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification
- Level 3 – Domestic, Commercial and Industrial EV Charging Equipment Installation
- Level 3 Award – Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS7671:2018)
